A Little About Me

My name is Mikayla, and I’m the creator of Kayla’s Collective.

The beach has always been my happy place. Being near the water reminds me to slow down and makes me feel at peace. For years, I’ve brought home little reminders of that feeling: shells, shark teeth, and whatever catches my eye along the shore.

Kayla’s Collective started after a birthday trip to Venice, Florida, the shark tooth capital of the world. My partner surprised me with a weekend away, and we spent our time searching the shoreline for shark teeth. Once we were home, I wanted to do something with the treasures we’d found, so I taught myself to wire-wrap shark tooth pendants. Those first pendants led to bracelets, rings, and eventually a little business built around something I love.

Living farther from my family and the shore made those finds mean even more to me. Making jewelry became a way to feel connected to the places and people I missed, even when I couldn’t be there.

I hand-collect every shell, shark tooth, and natural find I use, whether I’m exploring Florida’s beaches or somewhere my travels have taken me. Some have been tucked away in my personal collection for years, waiting for the right idea. I pair my shoreline finds with locally sourced, second-hand beads and genuine pearls, giving forgotten materials a new place in something handmade.

I make each piece by hand, with care for every little detail. My hope is that when you wear one of my pieces, it brings you a little of the same happiness I felt finding the treasures and turning them into something you can cherish.
